Kathmandu: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has assured the complete enforcement of the government's agreement with victims of usury.

A comprehensive four-point agreement was reached between the government and the usury victims, with one of the key points focusing on the establishment of a probe commission.

Upon arriving at the negotiation venue, DPM Lamichhane emphasized the government's understanding of the challenges faced by usury victims. Despite unforeseen circumstances, he reiterated the government's commitment to standing with the victims in upholding their rights.

While acknowledging that the agreement marks a starting point, Lamichhane stressed that the fight for the rights of victims should not conclude here. Expressing regret for the toll the prolonged struggle took on the victims of loan-sharking, the DPM issued an apology.

He disclosed that the probe commission's recommendations would serve as a foundation for subsequent actions by the government. Lamichhane informed the media that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal had been briefed about the agreement and emphasized the government's responsibility to ensure its implementation.

However, Lamichhane requested some time from victims of extortionate money lending for the effective execution of the pact. He urged them to remain vigilant and promised continued government oversight.

As part of the agreement, a formal request will be submitted to the Ministry of Finance to incorporate necessary provisions in the upcoming budget for financial aid, relief, and compensation aimed at preventing vulnerable groups from falling victim to usury.
